TV Cabinet Makeover: Take 2

Hi everyone!!

Remember when I shared with you Take 1 of the Cabinet Makeover?

Now here is the FINAL look after I repainted it, I'm in LOVE with this!!!!

It started out like this after the previous attempt to change the cabinet:

I taped off stripes how far I wanted them apart. It actually worked out great in the end. Then I painted every other stripe with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen.

The remaining stripes was painted with French Linen mixed with a little Old White. I wanted a very similar colour, just lighter.

I think it looks pretty amazing!!!

Drab to Fab Tea/Coffee Canister Makeover

Today I want to share this fabulous makeover I did with cheap tea/coffee canisters.

When I bought these for next to nothing it looked like this...

First I spray painted it with leftover bright red. It is stunning near my newly painted cabinet. It looked a lot better even with the white lids, but I decided to paint the lids to match these buckets. I painted the lids with Annie Sloan ChalkPaint in Duck Egg Blue.

I cannot give this product enough praise! It's just spectacular! I only needed one coat of the ChalkPaint and it was soo easy to apply. I added a coffee- and tea label I found at a antique shop to two of the canisters. It looks great!!!

I love the character it gives to the coffee-making area of my kitchen!

Drab to Fab Candle Holder Makeover

Hi there!

Today I'll share this very easy makeover with you. A few years ago I bought these red, shiny candle holders, they were on sale after Christmas. I bought them with the idea to paint them, but I never came around. If I knew they can look so stunning, I would have done it long ago :-)

Here's the BEFORE. I don't like it at all...

I painted it with 2 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen mixed with a little Old White. No sanding or prepping!!!

I just love how it blends in with the rest of our decor now.

Nightstand Makeover with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™

Hi there.

Today I'm showing off our nightstand makeover. We got the nightstand from my sister-in-laws' mother. She was decluttering and asked if we were interested...Of course we were!!

This was my second project with Annie Sloan ChalkPaint (see first here...), and I still LOVE it. I painted the body with French Linen and the knobs with Old White. I just love these two colors together.

The nightstand is made of pine (which I hate), but it only took two coats to make me fall in love with it.

  

On the photo below you can see the effect I was going for on the middle part. I painted it with a foam-roller in Old White and waited for it to dry. I took a dry brush and just lightly went over the white with the French Linen. 

I'm so please with the result and the guestroom is looking good. I did a matching mirror which I will share with you soon :-)

Drab to fab: Glass bottles

Welcome back!

Today I'll share a super easy Glass Bottle Revamp.

 I had these ordinary, boring old glass bottles on hand. I have TONS of them. I can't throw away anything made of glass. I WILL have a use for all the glass bottles in the world someday :-) . Like these...

 I decided to give them a splash of paint to match other elements in our home. I used my new favorite color - Duck Egg Blue from Annie Sloan ChalkPaint. Have I mentioned my love for this product??!! 

And this is the fabulous end result:

Huge difference, hey?

New beginnings

Welcome to my first blog post!! I'm so excited to share my journey with you.

We recently moved into our very first home, what an exciting time it has been (excuse photos of unpacked boxes....)! It's small, BUT it's OURS and we LOVE it!

Our kitchen is rather smallish and I'm used to a bit more space, so I got the husband to get some quotes for build-in cupboards around our refrigerator - guy quoted us R 15 000!!! Whaaat? (That's like $1500) for one narrow cupboard...! So as we unpacked our furniture (it was in storage for more than 6 months) we rediscovered (how can one forget ones own possessions?!) a cupboard we bought for R300 (roughly $30). It's sturdy, but so not pretty.

I was desperately waiting for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ to arrive in South Africa and it would have been PERFECT on this cupboard, but it would only arrive the next week and I could not wait (read: too lazy to sand and prime)... Sooo, I DIY'ed it. Recipes for DIY chalk paint are all over the place, but here's what I used...

I dissolved the Plaster of Paris in a few tablespoons of water and just give it a good stir and your'e good to go. I know a few other recipes uses Latex paint, well I used Acrylic and as I really had nothing to compare it with, I thought it worked just fine...

I painted four coats (the grain was quite prominent) and it looked fabulous!!! I bought some new hardware and I'm totally in love with my new 'pantry'.

To end things off today, here is a photo of our unfinished kitchen with my 'new' cupboard.
